Temuco is the capital of the IX Region of the Araucanía being one of the largest cities in Chile and one of the last to be founded due to the resistance of the Mapuche, original Chilean people. Concepción is the capital of the Bío Bío Region, located 500 km south of Santiago on the side of the BíoBío River.
